There is, of course, nothing wrong with an import per se. However, statistically, Cartell has pointed out in research there is a possibility that an import is a write off, or has a mileage issue, or has finance outstanding – and these are concerns the Irish buyer should know about as it adversely affects them if they purchase. ‘Hidden History’ refers to these matters and other issues like the total number of owners. However, it is also true, as you mention, that Irish vehicles are often serviced locally meaning records are not recorded or passed onwards to future owners. This is less likely to arise with a UK vehicle and there are certainly advantages in buying imported cars – no question about that – provided the buyer is fully informed.
